MIAMI - North Texas is headed down I-95 to FIU's Miami campus with a three-game win streak due in large part to the play of big-man Colin Voss.
Over this three-game stretch Voss is averaging 15.3 points on 51.7 percent shooting, including a 16-of-18 (88.9 percent) mark from the stripe. The Grand Rapids, Mich., native has made 15 straight from the line and scored a career-high 22 points at Florida Atlantic on Thursday.
NT's 63.3 percent shooting clip (31-of-49) at FAU is tied for the seventh best shooting night in school history, and is the program's best outing since setting the school-record against FIU in Denton on Feb. 9, 2013 (75.0 percent, 24-of-32).
A quick look at the C-USA standings shows why Saturday night's tilt at FIU Arena is of the utmost importance for the Mean Green. With five games to play, NT is tied with FIU and Rice for 8th place in C-USA, and currently owns the three-way tiebreaker thanks to two wins over Rice.
A victory over the Panthers on Saturday would give NT yet another crucial tiebreaker in the standings logjam. A loss could back to haunt them if FIU and NT finish the season with the same record.
Only two games separate NT from fifth-place ODU. If the C-USA Tourney were to start today, No. 8 seed NT would take on No. 9 FIU in the opening round.
