LB Fred Scott Named To C-USA All-Academic Team

IRVING - North Texas senior linebacker Fred Scott was announced as one of 11 selections to the 2016 InTouch Credit Union Conference USA All-Academic team, the conference office released Thursday. It marks the first time in his career that Scott earned this distinction.
The all-academic team consists of student-athletes who have earned a 3.2 cumulative grade point average or better and are a starter or key reserve for their team. The squad is selected by the league's football media relations directors for football.
Scott, who is currently pursuing his master's degree, graduated Cum Laude in May with a 3.62 GPA as a kinesiology major with a minor in business management. An Arthur Ashe Scholar in 2016, the Kennedale, Texas, native was a semifinalist for the National Football Foundation National Scholar Athlete Award this season. Active in community service in the Denton area, Scott has been on the Dean's List in fall 2013, spring 2014, as well as both the spring and fall of 2015. Additionally, the Mean Green's starting weak side linebacker made the athletic director's honor roll in the fall of 2014 and again in spring 2016.
One of five team captains, Scott appeared in 10 games during the regular season for the Mean Green, who finished 5-7 and are potentially slated for postseason play thanks to their high Academic Progress Rate score (984). Scott recorded 44 total tackles (28 solo), with a sack, a fumble recovery and two-and-a-half tackles for loss.
