DENTON – Bill Carrico, a legendary figure at North Texas and in the Denton community, passed away on Sunday. Carrico was a member of the North Texas Athletic Hall of Fame and was one of 26 players named to the North Texas All-Century Football Team.
Carrico earned two letters in football and helped North Texas to a Missouri Valley Conference championship in 1958 and a share of the MVC title in 1959. He was twice named all-Missouri Valley Conference and was selected a Williamson All-American in 1959.
North Texas went 16-4-1 in Carrico’s two years, winning back-to-back titles and along the way scored a 39-7 win over Louisville to earn a No. 20 national ranking.
Carrico was inducted into the North Texas Athletic Hall of Fame in 1993 and was selected to the North Texas All-Century Football Team in 2013.
He spent over three decades working for Denton ISD as a coach and administrator. The new athletic complex at Braswell High School in Denton, which is scheduled to open this fall, is named for Carrico.
