During its run to the Heart of Dallas Bowl on New Year's Day, North Texas had debuted a black jersey with green sleeves and green pants.

But as the team entered the lockerroom in the Cotton Bowl before the nationally-televised bowl game against UNLV, players found a new helmet - a black carbon-fiber shell with a shiny, green diving eagle logo.

The helmets made a big impression, and players were trying them on before removing their street clothes. The headgear didn't hurt the team's performance, either: North Texas crushed UNLV, 36-14.
