Marilyn Marin, North Texas' all-time leader in goals scored, assisted on the Mean Green's first goal of the game to ignite a rally against No. 9 SMU.
Down 2-0 after 65 minutes of their match against SMU on Sept. 1, 2000, North Texas rallied for its first win over a top-10 team, beating the metroplex rival Mustangs, 3-2.
Playing on a neutral site in Waco, the Mean Green fell into a two-goal deficit when No. 9 SMU scored in the 65th minute. But in the 66th minute, North Texas' Teresa Vise scored on an assit from Marilyn Marin.
With just 1:46 left, the Mean Green was fouled in the penalty area by SMU goalkeeper Becca Leif. The Mean Green's Carrie Kveton made the ensuing penalty shot to tie the game at 2-2 and force overtime.
With all the momentum now behind North Texas, Kveton got the game winner and her second goal of the game 5:48 into OT for the victory.
North Texas has three wins over ranked opponents in program history - and all three have come in overtime.
