IRVING - Conference USA announced Monday that three North Texas volleyball players earned Player of the Week honors, the first time in program history for three weekly awards and the third time with at least two selections.
"It's a testament to how special and balanced our team is this year," North Texas head coach Andrew Palileo said.
Senior middle blocker Amanda Chamberlain earned her second Offensive Player of the Week honor. Junior setter Karley York was named the league's Setter of the Week, and outside hitter Barbara Teakell earned Freshman of the Week honors.
"They had a great weekend of volleyball, and I'm equally excited for our team because of our two road wins this weekend," Palileo said.
North Texas posted a pair of four-set victories against UTEP and Florida Atlantic, improving their C-USA record to 6-1, the best start to conference play for the program since 2002.
Chamberlain posted a team-high 37 kills over the weekend and committed just seven errors on 71 attempts for a .423 attack percentage. With 18 kills against FAU on Sunday, she surpassed the 900 career kill mark, becoming just the 11th Mean Green player to do so.
"I really wanted to make my senior year memorable, and I have been working hard to help my team," Chamberlain said, "so getting this award lets me know that all of those hard days weren't for nothing."
York combined for 109 assists over the weekend, recording back-to-back 50-assist matches for the first time this season. The San Antonio native compiled four kills, 13 digs and a pair of blocks.
"It's truly an honor to be given this award, but I couldn't do it without my awesome teammates and the Lord," York said. "I'm blessed to lead a team who works so hard on and off the court."
Teakell recorded her first career 20-kill performance against FAU, to go with a pair of assists, 12 digs and four blocks. She finished the weekend with 34 kills and seven errors on 70 attempts (.386). Teakell was errorless on 39 receptions for a perfect reception percentage.
"I am thrilled, humbled and honored," Teakell said. "I have been extremely blessed with a truly amazing setter and awesome teammates and coaches."
