Mean Green Homestand Begins With Bethune-Cookman

DENTON -- Returning home after a tough road loss at Nebraska 86-67, the North Texas men's basketball team looks to bounce back against Bethune-Cookman on Thursday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m. at the Super Pit.
The Mean Green fell behind 25-2 in the first half at Nebraska and never fully recovered in a 19-point loss. North Texas did outscore the Cornhuskers 37-34 in the second half but will need to get more from sophomore Roosevelt Smart, who finished with just five points off 2-of-14 shooting.
Senior Shane Temara has put together back-to-back solid performances with a double-double scoring 16 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Sophomore Ryan Woolridge finished with 14 points and six rebounds before fouling out. Junior Allante Holston added 10 points off the bench for his second-straight game in double figures.
Woolridge leads the team in scoring at 17.5 points per game and Temara is second at 15.5 per game. Temara has grabbed nine offensive rebounds in two games and is averaging 8.5 boards per game.
The matchup against the Wildcats is the first game for North Texas as part of the Ramblin' Wreck Showcase. The Mean Green will host home games against BCU, UT Rio Grande Valley and Grambling State. The only road game in the showcase will be at Georgia Tech on Nov. 24.
About the Opponent: Bethune-Cookman
This will be the first meeting between the two teams.
The Wildcats enter the game with a 1-1 overall record after suffering a 92-74 loss at UT Rio Grand Valley on Nov. 13. BCU trailed 51-32 at halftime and never recovered despite winning the second half 42-41. Junior Isaiah Bailey led the team in scoring with 21 points and grabbed five rebounds. Senior Brandon Tabb added 19 points and was 7-for-8 from the free throw line.
Tabb leads the team in scoring at 17.5 points per game in two games and junior Shawntrez Davis is second at 17 points per game. Davis leads the team in rebounding at 9.5 boards per game.
7 of the 10 players who have played this season for Bethune-Cookman have hit a three-pointer. The Wildcats have made 16 in two games and are shooting 39 percent from the three-point line.
In their season opener against Johnson University, BCU won easily 108-66 on Nov. 10. The Wildcats scored 30 points off turnovers in the victory.
