DENTON - The North Texas men's basketball team will take on Georgia Tech on the road in the Ramblin' Wreck Showcase on Friday, Nov. 24, at 3 p.m. at the McCamish Pavilion.
The Mean Green improved to 3-2 on the season after an 86-74 win against Rogers State on Nov. 22. Sophomore Roosevelt Smart scored a career-high 26 points off six three-pointers. Sophomore A.J. Lawson added 17 points and eight rebounds in the 12-point win against the Hillcats.
North Texas had an impressive performance sharing the basketball with 19 assists, including nine from sophomore point guard Ryan Woolridge. Woolridge scored 11 points and played 39 of 40 minutes in the home win. Woolridge is second on the team in scoring at 16.4 points per game. Lawson dished out four assists and junior Jorden Duffy had three assists.
The Mean Green will be looking for their first road win of the season and fifth win against a team from the ACC. North Texas will play four games in nine days returning home to face Grambling State on Nov. 27 before two road games at Oklahoma (Nov. 30) and at UT Arlington (Dec. 2).
About the Opponent: Georgia Tech
• This will be the second game all-time between North Texas and Georgia Tech. It is the first game since Dec. 31, 1997.
• In the previous game, the Yellow Jackets earned a 93-76 home victory against the Mean Green on Dec. 31, 1997. Third-team All-America Matt Harpring scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Dion Glover added 18 points. Georgia Tech overcame 27 turnovers by shooting 54 percent from the field.
• Georgia Tech enters the game with a 2-1 record with wins against Bethune Cookman (65-62) and UT Rio Grande Valley (78-68). The Yellow Jackets are 2-0 in the Ramblin' Wreck Showcase.
• Center Ben Lammers scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the 10-point win against UTRGV. Lammers leads the team in scoring at 19 points per game and in rebounding at 10 boards per game. Brandon Alston, coming off a career-high 20 points against UTRGV, is second on the team at 14.7 points per game.
• The Yellow Jackets finished with 21 wins in 2016-17 and were the NIT runner up falling to TCU in the championship game.
• Georgia Tech has only taken 38 three-pointers and made 10 in three games. Tech's only loss was to UCLA 63-60 in China on Nov. 11.
