TALLAHASSEE, Florida - North Texas wide receiver Rico Bussey, Jr. was one of six players added to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List Wednesday, the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation announced.
The Biletnikoff Award annually recognizes the outstanding FBS receiver in college football. Any player, regardless of position (wide receiver, tight end, slot back, and running back) who catches a pass is eligible for the award. As such, the Biletnikoff Award recognizes college football's outstanding receiver, not merely college football's outstanding wide receiver. The award recipient is selected by the Biletnikoff Award national selection committee, a group of prominent college football journalists, commentators, announcers, Biletnikoff Award winners, and other former receivers. For a list of voters, please see BiletnikoffAward.com/voters.
The Lawton, Oklahoma, native leads the Mean Green in all major receiving categories six weeks into the 2018 season. Bussey has 41 catches for 532 yards and eight touchdowns in six games. He ranks second in the nation in receiving touchdowns, 17th in receptions per game (6.8) and 18th in receiving yards. Bussey has eclipsed 100 yards four times already this season, including each of the last two games.
Bussey is seventh in career receiving touchdowns with 16 and is sixth in career 100-yard games with six.
Bussey joins teammates Jalen Guyton and Michael Lawrence on the watch list.
The 2018 Biletnikoff Award winner will be presented live on December 6, 2018, on The Home Depot College Football Awards presented by Gildan to be broadcast 6 - 8 p.m. (CST) on ESPN. College and pro football hall of famer Fred Biletnikoff will announce the 2018 Biletnikoff Award winner on the show.
North Texas (5-1, 1-1 C-USA) hosts Southern Miss (2-2, 1-0 C-USA) Saturday at 1 p.m. CT at Apogee Stadium in Denton. Tickets are available at meangreensports.com/tickets.Â
