Mean Green at Tiger Turkey Tipoff

DENTON – North Texas women's basketball will take part in the Tiger Turkey Tipoff in Stockton, California, hosted by Pacific to take on Wyoming Friday at 2:30 p.m. CST and North Dakota State Saturday at 2:30 p.m. inside Alex G. Spanos Center.
About the Mean Green (1-2, 0-0 C-USA)
The Mean Green are looking to move back into the win column after a pair of losses to Big 12 opponents, then-No. 11/8 Texas and Kansas State. Redshirt senior guard Terriell Bradley leads UNT in scoring at 14.0 ppg, while sophomore point guard Trena Mims is posting 12.3. Redshirt sophomore forward Madi Townley is pulling down a team-high six rebounds per contest, and senior guard Brittany Smith is dishing out nearly three assists per game.
About Wyoming (2-1, 0-0 Mountain West)
The Cowgirls have posted wins over Division II opponents Chadron State and UC-Colorado Springs with a loss coming at Saint Mary's (Calif.). Six players are averaging double digits in scoring, led by 15 ppg each from Tereza Vitulova and Marta Gomez. The Cowgirls are scoring 87.3 points per contest and have outscored their opponents by a margin of 34 points.
About North Dakota State (2-2, 0-0 Summit League)
The Bison have collected victories against Mayville State (NAIA) and New Hampshire and losses to Creighton and Wisconsin. Michelle Gaislerova posts a team-high 16.0 points per game while shooting 46-percent from the three-point line. Marina Fernandez registers a team-best 5.8 rebounds per game.

UNT is tops in Conference USA in scoring defense by allowing just 53 points per game from opponents and sits second in field goal percentage defense at just over 33-percent. The Mean Green led the country in field goal percentage defense following the opening week of the 2018-19 season when they held Mid-America Christian to 11 field goals on 64 tries, including 5-of-24 on 3-pointers.
All-around play by Mims
Throughout the first three games of the season, sophomore point guard Trena Mims has been contributing to the Mean Green in several ways on the stat sheet. The Muskogee, Oklahoma, native is second on the team in scoring (12.3 ppg) and rebounding (5.3 rpg), and also has the second-highest number of total assists (seven) and steals (three) for UNT. Standing 5-5, Mims set a career-high in rebounds with eight in the season opener against Mid-America Christian and is shooting 48.5-percent from the field.
Mid-game surge
The Mean Green are outscoring their foes by 27 points combined in the second and third quarter. In the 10 minutes following halftime, North Texas has put up 59 points compared to 34 from the opposition. In the first and third quarter, UNT has not fared as well with opponents putting up eight more points collectively.
Bradley moves past Mitchell
Against Texas Nov. 12, Terriell Bradley nailed a 3-pointer in the second quarter for the 88th of her Mean Green career to surpass Head Coach Jalie Mitchell for seventh place all-time in the UNT record books. With 90 threes to date, Bradley is now seven away from tying Delaine Taylor for the sixth spot.
Bradley's FTs moving up the charts
With 294 free throws made, Bradley sits in fifth place all-time in program history. She needs eight more to tie Hall of Famer Rosalyn Reades for fourth. Not out of sight is the No. 1 spot, held by Head Coach Jalie Mitchell who sank 411 throughout her career. Bradley made 164 from the line last season and now needs 117 to dethrone Mitchell.
Shepherd making early impact
Freshman forward Charlene Shepherd has not shied away from her first contests in a Mean Green jersey as she is averaging 6.7 points and 3.3 rebounds while hitting half of her shot attempts (9-of-18). Against Mid-America Christian, Shepherd was just short of a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds. Her play in the fourth quarter kept UNT rolling as she hit all four of her attempts in the quarter. Against the much bigger Longhorns, Shepherd did not back down while putting up seven shots for five points in 12 minutes of action.

MANHATTAN, Kan. (Nov. 16, 2018) – North Texas was held to one field goal in the fourth quarter after outscoring Kansas State by five in the third in a 60-42 loss at Friday night inside Bramlage Coliseum as Callie Owens scored a team-high 13 points off of the bench.
The Mean Green (1-2, 0-0 C-USA), playing their second Big 12 opponent this week, tallied over half of their points from the reserves with Anisha George collecting half a dozen and grabbing a team-high eight rebounds, including five on the offensive end as UNT tied the Wildcats (2-0, 0-0 Big 12) in the rebounding battle with 34.
Highly Regarded 2019 Signing Class
North Texas Women's Basketball Head Coach Jalie Mitchell has pieced together her most heralded signing class since taking over the Mean Green in 2015. UNT picked up six solid commits for the 2019-20 year as Ashley Bowen, N'Yah Boyd, Jazion Jackson, Destinee McDowell, Keira Neal, and Randi Thompson sent over their National Letters of Intent to confirm their commitment to the Mean Green to complete the No. 1-ranked class within Conference USA per the Collegiate Girls Basketball Report.
"It is a great day for the Mean Green as we sign one of the best classes to ever come through Denton," Mitchell said. "It is a very balanced class as we are losing a player in almost every position after this season.
