Valerian Earns All-Academic Honor

DENTON – North Texas sophomore outside hitter Valerie Valerian is earning recognition for her work both on the court and in the classroom.

After being named first team All-Conference USA, Valerian was honored on the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District® First-Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The award recognizes the top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.

Valerian was recognized for her team-leading explosive sophomore season, when she led the team with 419 kills and a 3.64 k/s average through the C-USA Tournament. Valerian has a second-best 309 digs in the Mean Green squad.

She also posted a 4.0 grade-point average in the classroom.

"Exciting for Val," head coach Andrew Palileo said. "She's highly intelligent and very astute to her academics. She studies a lot and puts a lot of effort into her school work. I'm glad she's being recognized for her effort."

The accounting major advances to the next round of voting for the Google Cloud Academic All-America team. The winners are set to be announced in early December.
