DENTON - The North Texas men's basketball team is one of 14 teams still playing in a postseason tournament and will begin the College Basketball Invitational Championship best-of-three series at San Francisco on Monday, March 26, at 9 p.m.
The CBI championship series will be broadcasted live on ESPNU with Roy Philpott calling play-by-play and Jason Capel as the analyst. Game 2 will be on Wednesday, March 28, at the Super Pit at 7:30. If there is a game 3, it will also be at the Super Pit on Friday, March 30, at 6 p.m.
The Mean Green (18-17) are riding a three-game winning streak, including three double-digit wins against South Dakota (90-77), Mercer (96-67) and Jacksonville State (90-68). UNT has hit 40 three-pointers in their last three games and broke the CBI single-game record for three-point percentage against Jacksonville State after going 14-for-20 (70 percent).
Sophomore guard Roosevelt Smart is closing in on the North Texas single-season record for most total points sitting 39 points from tying Kenneth Lyons. Smart is averaging 28.3 points per game during the CBI Tournament, which is tied for the most in CBI history. Sophomore Ryan Woolridge has dished out 205 assists and is four away from becoming the single-season assist leader.
Only four teams will finish their season by winning a postseason national tournament and North Texas starts that quest against San Francisco on the road.
