DENTON - The schedule for the 2018-19 North Texas women's golf program was released Friday, head coach Michael Akers announced.
"I am very proud of the competition schedule we have put together for this season," Akers said. "In women's golf it is imperative to play a strong schedule in order to have the opportunity to put the team in a position to earn an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament. We also have the roster to make that move this year."
North Texas will take on a deep field of competition throughout the season, facing off against teams from the Big 12, SEC, Big 10, ACC, American Athletic Conference, Mountain West, and of course, foes from Conference USA.
The Mean Green open the fall season with the Duel at Dornick in Ardmore, Oklahoma, against Murray State. They then make a trip to the University of Minnesota on Sept. 10 and 11 for the Minnesota Invitational for the first full tournament of the fall.
The following month, North Texas travels to San Antonio for the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational from TPC San Antonio from Oct. 14-16. Later that week, the Mean Green continue on to Austin for The Betsy Rawls Invitational from the UT Golf Club from Oct. 19-21.
North Texas concludes the fall portion of the season in Dallas at the Trinity Forest Invitaional, hosted by SMU from Oct. 29-30.
The spring component of the schedule kicks off with a tournament hosted by the University of Houston in The Woodlands, Texas, from Feb. 25-26. North Texas then travels to The University of Hawaii in Kailua from March 12-13 for the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational before a trip to Tucson for an event jointly hosted by the University of Missouri and Kansas State, from March 22-24 for the MountainView Collegiate.
The Mean Green then host the second annual Bruzzy from April 1-2.
"We are also honored to host The Bruzzy again this year," Akers said. "Our field is even better than last year. The word has spread through college golf about the hospitality at The Bruzzy. I literally had to tell 30 teams we didn't have an opening."
North Texas will battle several highly-ranked programs in 2018-19, including: Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, TCU, Missouri, Kansas State, Kansas, Ole Miss, Baylor, Miami, Maryland, Iowa, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Rutgers, Purdue, Kentucky, Louisville, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma, Tennessee, LSU, Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa State, Oregon State, as well as other high-level programs from around the country.
Postseason dates are scheduled for April 15-17 in Fort Myers, Florida, for the Conference USA Championship, the NCAA Regionals from May 6-8 and the NCAA Championships, which will be held in Fayetteville, Arkansas, at The Blessings Golf Club from May 17-21.
