#NFLMeanGreen: Preseason Week Two
8/16/2018 4:27:00 PM | Football
DENTON - With the National Football League's preseason in full swing, it is time to revisit those in the league that once called Denton home in 2018's second installment of #NFLMeanGreen.
As it currently stands, there are three players in the NFL that played for the Mean Green. New Orleans Saints linebacker Craig Robertson, Dallas Cowboys fullback Jamize Olawale and rookie running back Jeffery Wilson is in San Francisco with the 49ers. Rookie kicker Trevor Moore was waived by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers prior to their first preseason game.Â
Robertson's Saints opened preseason play last week with a 24-20 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on the road. CT. Robertson, who appeared briefly in the game but did not record any stats, finished 2017 with 80 tackles, a pair of sacks, two interceptions and a forced fumble in 16 regular season appearances, 12 of which were starts. New Orleans and Robertson host the Arizona Cardinals Friday, Aug. 17, at 7 p.m. CT from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
Olawale and the Cowboys fell in their preseason opener against Wilson's 49ers in Santa Clara, 24-21. Olawale saw some action and had one catch for seven yards in his debut for Dallas. Olawale's Cowboys look to earn their first preseason win Saturday night at 6 p.m. CT on Saturday, Aug. 18 from AT&T Stadium against the Cincinnati Bengals. The game will be broadcast locally in the DFW area on CBS 11, and nationally on NFL Network.
Wilson, an undrafted free agent, has seen a pair of running backs on the 49ers depth chart go down with injuries, in starter Jerick McKinnon (calf) and Matt Breida (shoulder). San Francisco signed former Cowboy Alfred Morris earlier this week to boost their depth, but Wilson figures to get more of a look in the second week of the preseason. Wilson made one tackle on special teams against Dallas, bringing down a punt returner immediately, but did not get any carries. Wilson has another opportunity to show what he can do Saturday night when the Niners travel to NRG Stadium in Houston to take on the Texans at 7 p.m. CT.
Be sure to follow the former Mean Green players in the NFL throughout the remainder of the preseason, and on into the regular season here on MeanGreenSports.com each week.
