DENTON – North Texas finished 2017 with just the seventh nine-win season in program history and rewrote a lot of the offensive portion of the record books. Now, that's done. The time to focus forward is here, as Mean Green student-athletes report Thursday for fall camp.
2016 was a foundation to build on and 2017 set new standards. Now the Mean Green football program wants more. Much of the work towards new goals began the second the New Orleans Bowl concluded – through the spring, summer workouts and everything done individually. But now, fall camp is set to begin and it is time to get prepared for Sept. 1 and Metroplex rival SMU.
Quarterback Mason Fine, five of the six leading receivers from last season, and eight defensive starters return for North Texas. New expectations are in place, as evidenced by the many preseason plaudits for members of the Mean Green across Conference USA, as well as the rest of the country.
Mean Green student-athletes open Thursday with a series of team and positional meetings around the athletic center.
Then, it's time to kick things off Friday morning from the Darrell R. Dickey Practice Facility on campus in Denton.
