Munoz, Ortiz Earn PGA Cards

DENTON – The first 25 of 50 available berths on the PGA Tour for the 2018-19 season were handed out Sunday after the Web.com Tour event in Oregon, the final regular-season event of the Web.com Tour, and two former UNT standouts will be headed back to the PGA Tour.
Sebastian Munoz and Carlos Ortiz earned their cards for the upcoming season, as Munoz ($238,938) finished seventh on the money list and Ortiz ($178,780) finished 21st.
Munoz, a 2015 graduate from Bogota, Colombia, had six top-10 finishes this year on the Web.com Tour and had a 69.45 scoring average. Ortiz, a 2013 graduate from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, had four top-10 finishes and had a 69.33 scoring average.
"It feels great," Munoz said of his return to the PGA. "It feels like the work I've put in has paid off. It feels like I'm going to be able to test my game against the best once again, and this time I'm going to be more ready than last time."
The top 25 money winners for the year secured the 25 berths, while the final 25 will be determined by standings after a four-tournament Finals.
Ortiz was previously on the PGA Tour for the 2014-15 and 15-16 seasons, while Munoz was on tour in 2016-17. Ortiz has nine top-25 finishes and one top-10 showing on his career PGA Tour ledger.
UNT golf coach Brad Stracke said he's happy to see the former teammates back in the spotlight that comes with being on the top tour.
"I am excited to see Carlos and Sebastian back on the PGA Tour," Stracke said. "They both have the talent to win on the PGA Tour. I'm looking forward to following their progress as they represent and make all of the UNT faithful proud."
The first PGA event of the 2018-19 season will be the Safeway Open Oct. 4-7 in Napa, California.
