C-USA Releases Preseason Poll, All-League Team

IRVING – After claiming its first regular-season conference title, the North Texas volleyball team was picked to finish fourth in the Conference USA preseason poll voted on by the league's 13 head coaches.
"I like where we're going to start," head coach Andrew Palileo said. "We're just going to have to work hard to get back on top."
Last season, the Mean Green set program records for best record (29-4), best conference record (13-1), longest win streak (16) and first AVCA Coaches Poll appearance. North Texas advanced to the C-USA Championship and reached the second round of the National Invitational Volleyball Championship.
Senior setter Karley York and sophomore outside hitter Barbara Teakell were named to the 2018 Preseason All-Conference USA team, the first time either student-athlete has received the honor.
"I'm excited that we're getting recognition for our players early on and I hope we can add a couple more accolades by the end of the season," Palileo said.
A First-Team All-C-USA and All-Southwest Region selection last year, York finished fourth in Division I in total assists (1,441) and sixth in assists per set (11.80) and garnered two C-USA Setter of the Week awards.
"It's always great to get recognized for the hours and hard work put in, but I'm ready to get the season started to see our team accomplish even more things than last season," York said.
The 2017 C-USA Co-Freshman of the Year, Teakell earned a spot on the league's all-freshman team and was named Honorable Mention All-Southwest Region. The only player with multiple 20-kill matches, Teakell posted five double-doubles and was a two-time C-USA Freshman of the Week.
Florida Atlantic led all schools with three student-athletes on the preseason all-conference team and Western Kentucky's Rachel Anderson was named the 2018 C-USA Preseason Player of the Year.
The Mean Green begin their season against Nicholls at noon on Aug. 24 as part of the North Texas Invitational and open league play at Louisiana Tech at 7 p.m. Sept. 21.
For the first time, single-game tickets are available for home matches at the North Texas Volleyball Center. Visit the Mean Green Ticket Office page to purchase tickets. Single-game tickets are $8.
