Rosenmueller Rallies To Win Trinity Forest

DALLAS — Thomas Rosenmueller had talked for months about how good he felt about every facet of his game after a successful summer playing in Europe.
On Tuesday, all the work the senior from Germany has put in paid off in a big way when he chased down Little Rock's Justin Warren to win the individual title at the Trinity Forest Invitational with a three-day total of 66-66-68-200 to win the tournament by two shots with a score of 13-under par.
"I mean, it feels great and overdue, to be honest," Rosenmueller said of his victory, which was the first for a UNT player since 2015, when he won the Quail Valley Collegiate Championship as a freshman. "I've put myself in good spots to win the last two years but finally was able to finish it."
For the tournament, Rosenmueller had just four bogeys and tied for second in the field with 17 birdies while also leading the field in Par 4 scoring.
"To be honest, everything was working really well, but I think my putting and iron game sealed it for me in the end," Rosenmueller said.
Rosenmueller's performance led the Mean Green to a fifth-place finish at 16-under par, two shots back of fourth-place Florida. Baylor won the tournament at 28-under par.
"I'm proud of how Thomas performed this week," UNT coach Brad Stracke said. "I'm looking forward to more tournament wins for him the rest of the year. He also played well in our first event at TPC San Antonio, so he's had two great events in a row. It really helps the psyche of the team to have someone win individually and shoot 13-under. That gives confidence to the entire team."
Stracke was pleased with the depth his team showed over the three-day event at the home of the AT&T Byron Nelson Championship.
Freshman Lenny Bergsson finished tied for 21st at 1-under par and was a star of Day 2 with five birdies on the back nine to get UNT into a tie for third after two rounds. Senior Jordan Sanders tied for 26th at even par, and freshman Henri Renouard tied for 50th at 5-over par in his collegiate debut. Viktor Forslund also shot 5-over par.
"I feel like we had five solid players in this tournament that could go low any time," Stracke said. "It's really refreshing, and I like the direction this team is going.
"[Assistant coach] Marco [Scarola] and I know what Lenny can do, and it was nice to see it happen in the tournament," Stracke added. "He had a 65 in qualifying, so we know what type of player he is. It was great to see. Henri, in his first tournament, played well. Lenny had one [tournament] under his belt, but I thought Henri played great in his first tournament."
UNT will now prepare to host the inaugural Maridoe Intercollegiate on Oct. 6-8, at its home course in Carrollton with a challenging field coming to town.
Stracke said the team has positive momentum heading into its tournament after Rosenmueller's win and the team's well-rounded performance.
"Any time you play well, it gives your team more confidence going into next tournament," Stracke said. "The guys know Maridoe a little better than other players so we have an advantage playing at home. We're looking forward to that tournament in two weeks."
