GAME NOTES
DENTON — The North Texas men's basketball team returns to the Super Pit for a 5 p.m. matchup with Middle Tennessee on Saturday.
The Mean Green (17-3, 5-2) head into Saturday's game with their best winning percentage in program history 20 games in to the season and in contention for a Conference USA championship as they sit one-game out of first place with 11 regular season games remaining.
Saturday's game can be seen on ESPN+ with Hank Dickenson and Paul Valamides on the call. And as always, the game can be heard on the Mean Green Sports Network on KHYI 95.3 FM or on the tuneIN app.
The Blue Raiders (5-15, 2-5) come to Denton under the direction of first year head coach Nick McDevitt. Kermit Davis, who led MT to three NCAA Tournament appearances since 2013, five regular season conference championships since 2011 and 332 wins in 16 seasons as the team's head coach, left Murfreesboro, Tennessee, this summer for Ole Miss.
Middle Tennessee who on top of a new coach returned just 10 percent of its offense from a season ago, had one of the toughest non-conference schedules this year. MT played Virginia, Butler, Stanford, at Vanderbilt, Murray State, Ole Miss, at Rhode Island and at Belmont during its non-conference schedule.
The Mean Green are looking to end a three-game losing streak to the Blue Raiders.
FRESHMAN RECORD
North Texas redshirt freshman Umoja Gibson's 53 three-pointers (2.65 per game) this season and 24 off the school record for a freshman. Chris Davis' 77 three-pointers in 1999-00 is the school record. Gibson is on pace to finish the regular season with 82 three pointers, which would be the third most in a single season in program history.
FOLLOWING A LOSS
Under second-year head coach Grant McCasland, the Mean Green are 10-3 all time in home games following a loss.
CLOSE GAMES
North Texas' last three games have been decided by one possession and had potential game winning shots attempted at the buzzer.
STEAL RECORD
Junior Ryan Woolridge is just 20 steals from setting the school record for career steals (151). Woolridge enters Thursday's game with 132 career steals. He had five steals versus Rice last Saturday. His season-high is six at New Mexico. He had a career-high eight steals last year versus UTSA.
