Betsy Rawls Invitational
UT Golf Club | Austin, Texas
Â
The North Texas women's golf team returns to action after a pair of top-3 finishes to start the season, and the Mean Green will be a part of a loaded field as they look for another.
Â
THE EVENT: The UT Golf Club will play at a max of 6,353 yards and will be a par-72 course. The teams will play 36 holes on Saturday with an 8:30 a.m., shotgun start, and then conclude the tournament Sunday with 18 holes following an 8:30 a.m., shotgun start.
Â
THE FIELD: There are 15 teams participating in the tournament: Baylor, Colorado, Denver, Kent State, Maryland, Miami, New Mexico, North Texas, Oklahoma State, SMU, Texas, TCU, Texas State, UNLV and Yale.
Â
REPRESENTING UNT: Competing for the Mean Green will be Lauren Cox, Audrey Tan, Patricia Sinolungan and Audrey Tan, Katie Finley and Marija Jucmane. Emilie Ricaud will compete as an individual.
Â
RESULTS: Live results will be posted on GolfStat.com. Full recaps from each day of competition will be posted on MeanGreenSports.com at the end of each day.
Â
LAST TIME OUT: North Texas took second at the Marilynn Smith Invitational in Manhattan, Kansas. The Mean Green had three top-10 finishes, as Patricia Sinolungan tied for fourth, Lauren Cox tied for sixth and Audrey Tan tied for 10th.
Â
MOVING UP: North Texas has made significant strides since head Michael Akers took over roughly four years ago. The Mean Green were ranked No. 201 following the 2015-16 season, and since Akers arrived in Denton, UNT has soared as many as 123 spots to break into the top 80, and ended last season 112 spots better than when he arrived in Denton. The Mean Green ended last season ranked No. 89, but climbed as high as No. 79. The first set of 2019-20 GolfStat rankings will be released Oct. 17.
Â
AKERS SAYS: "We are excited to get down to Austin and compete at UT. The field is very good," UNT head coach Michael Akers said. "Although the GolfStat rankings do not come out until mid-October, I believe there are multiple top-30 teams in the field. We played solid in the first two tournaments, but have yet to reach our potential. The team has prepared very well over the past few weeks and should be ready to go."
Â
UP NEXT: North Texas will close out its fall schedule when it travels to the Bahamas for the Bahamas Invitational on Paradise Island from Oct. 28-30.
