Chile Pepper Race Assignments 2019
DENTON – The North Texas cross country will be back in action Saturday, October 5 when they travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas for the 31st Annual Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival. The men's 8K will begin at 9 a.m. followed by the women's 5K at 10:40 a.m.
"We're really excited to go back to the Chile Pepper," head coach Kevin Williams said. "We ran well last year and it should be a much more competitive meet this year with a lot of power-5 schools. It'll be a good test at this point in the season."
The field consists of 29 teams including ranked teams such as no. 8 Oklahoma State and no. 25 Arkansas.
North Texas will look to get back on track after a three-week hiatus from competition. The men are coming off two first place team finishes to open the season with the women looking to build off of second and third place team finishes.
"We've gotten some really good training in," Williams said. "Especially our young athletes have found some consistency and confidence through that training and hopefully that shows on Saturday."
The Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival began in 1992 when the Chile Pepper Running Club came together to being three northwest Arkansas cross country races under a single event. The festival has become one of the premier running events in America. The event hosts approximately 6,500 runners and over 6,000 spectators each year.
