DENTON – North Texas women's basketball coach Jalie Mitchell announced on Monday the signing of shooting guard Maddie Cleary, who will join the program for the 2020-21 season.
After signing a heralded class last year that was comprised of six players, there were fewer holes to fill this year with so much youth already in the program, but Mitchell said she is excited to add the Prosper High School guard, who she expects to fit into her program perfectly in the coming years.
"Maddie Cleary is the very definition of a sharpshooter," Mitchell said. "Whether off the catch, screen or dribble, she can hit it from deep. Her understanding of the game, spacing and timing make her tough to guard and even harder to stop! I love her team spirit, selfless mentality and work ethic. Her addition to our Mean Green family makes us better in so many ways! We are not only welcoming Maddie, but also her family, friends and fans from nearby Prosper, Texas. We can't wait to have you all!"
Cleary was a first-team selection on the District 9-6A all-district team as a junior and helped lead Prosper to the Class 6A Region II tournament. She will provide the Mean Green with a lethal outside shooting threat, as she is one of the Dallas-Fort Worth area's top long-range shooters. Last season, as a junior, she averaged 2.4 made 3-pointers per game to put her in the top 10 in the Metroplex, according to The Dallas Morning News.
