DENTON – UNT Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker announced Tuesday Mean Green Athletics has received a gift of $1 million from Jim and Linda McNatt, to support various departmental and capital improvement initiatives.
The money will be used to assist in the renovation and remodel of the Mean Green Village facility, which houses the offices, locker rooms and meeting space for several UNT programs. Funds will also be allocated for improvements to the softball facility, basketball facility, and architectural design of future facility expansions. Additionally, resources have been earmarked for recruiting enhancements and coaching retention initiatives.
"We are appreciative to have donors like Jim and Linda McNatt who understand the importance of supporting the whole student-athlete experience for all of our programs," Baker said. "This generous gift is another significant investment in the foundation we are constructing to build champions and prepare leaders."
This is the fifth seven-figure commitment North Texas Athletics has received since Baker took over in the fall of 2016. The two largest gifts in department history were received in 2018 and helped build the recently-completed Lovelace and McNatt Families Practice Facility, and a recent $1.5 million commitment from Bruzzy Westheimer will allow for the completion of an on-campus golf practice facility approved by the UNT Board of Regents recently.
