FORT WORTH - North Texas quarterback Mason Fine added to his plaudits following his performance last week in the win over UTEPÂ as he was named to the Davey O'Brien Award Great 8 List.
Fine, a Peggs, Oklahoma, native completed 24 of 39 passes for 332 yards and a career-high seven touchdowns in a 52-26 win over UTEP. Fine's seven touchdowns broke his previous career-high that he set last week at Charlotte when he threw five. He is the first Conference USA quarterback to throw for seven touchdowns in a game since Marshall's Rakeem Cato (Nov. 28, 2014). His seven touchdowns passes also broke the Apogee Stadium record for most touchdown passes in a single game that was originally set in the stadium's first game back in 2011 when Houston's Case Keenum threw for five against the Mean Green. Fine's seven scoring tosses are the second most in any game this year across the FBS. The senior moved into 36th all-time in the NCAA with 12,026 career passing yards, passing the likes of Russell Wilson, Brady Quinn, Drew Brees, Carson Palmer and Byron Leftwich. Fine currently sits at 91 career touchdown passes, which leads all active FBS players and ranks 43rd all-time. Fine's 27 touchdown passes on the year lead C-USA, are tied for third nationally and equal his 2018 season total.
The national quarterback of the week will be announced Tuesday.
Earlier on Monday, Fine was also named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week and was selected as a Manning Award Star of the Week.
