DALLAS – Freshman middle Alysha Johnson was named the Conference USA Freshman of the Week for her performances against FIU and FAU, the conference office announced on Monday. Johnson started in both matches, playing all 10 sets.
Johnson averaged 2.20 kills per set along with 1.60 blocks per set. Against FIU she had 10 kills on 23 attacks, hitting .435. Against FAU she picked up 10 kills on 21 attacks. She totaled 22 kills across the weekend while also picking up 14 block assists. Johnson was dominant at the net with 10 block assists against FIU.
"It's a great recognition for Alysha," head coach Andrew Palileo said. "I believe she is one of the top freshman in our league. Where she started and where she is now is because of her desire to get better every day and understanding the process of where she ultimately wants to go as a player."
It is the first time in her career picking up a weekly conference honor award. Johnson and North Texas face off with #23 Western Kentucky in Denton on Friday Nov. 8 at 6 p.m.
