Valerian Named to AVCA All-Region Team

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Valerie Valerian continued her stellar career on Tuesday after being recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association as a member of the All-Southwest Region honorable mention squad.
The two-time First Team All-Conference USA standout led the Mean Green with 450 kills and 334 digs in 2019. Valerian also finished the season with 18 double-doubles, including a 20-20 double-double against UTSA in the Conference USA Tournament quarterfinals.
During conference play, Valerian posted a career high 28 digs in a win at Charlotte on Oct. 18 before recording a season high 28 kills against Middle Tennessee on Oct. 25.
After becoming the first player in program history to play for the U.S. National Team last season, Valerian continued to etch her name in the North Texas record book in during the 2019 season. The junior outside hitter currently sits at 6th all-time in program history in kills (1,224) and 9th all-time in digs (965).
The Sugarland, Texas, native was one of 12Â student-athletes from Conference USA to earn AVCA All-Region honors, and is one of five league competitors listed in the Southwest Region.
Along with her outstanding play on the court, Valerian was named to the Conference USA All-Academic team earlier this year as the only member to possess a 4.0 GPA.
Valerian was instrumental in leading North Texas to a 16-11 record and a third-place finish in the C-USA regular standings. In her three years at North Texas, the Mean Green have yet to post a losing season.Â
