
Mean Green Host Arkansas Pine Bluff

DENTON — As the 2019 calendar year and non-conference schedule comes to an end, the North Texas men's basketball team will host Arkansas Pine Bluff on Saturday at 5 p.m.
What is the second to last game of 2019 and the non-conferene, the Mean Green (4-7) and Golden Lions (1-9) will play on C-USA.tv and the Mean Green Sports Network on the tuneIN app. Dave Barnett and Hank Dickenson will be on the call.
UNT defeated UAPB last season 77-66 in the two teams' first ever meeting. North Texas' Michael Miller, a 2019 graduate, scored a career-high 35 points in the win.
TOUGH SCHEDULING
As of Wednesday, North Texas' first 11 opponents this season had a combined winning percentage of .667 (72-36). It is the 32nd toughest schedule in the nation through the first 11 games and the toughest in C-USA. The schedule gets a little easier moving forward as their future opponents have a combined .512 winning percentage (83-79), which ranks 210th in the nation. North Texas' total strength of schedule last season ranked 219th. UAPB comes into Denton with the 16th toughest schedule in the nation (.694).
On Monday, North Texas earned a No. 98 NET ranking, the first NET ranking of the season. They were the only team in the top 100 with a losing record and according to the NET had the 11th toughest schedule in the nation. After UNT's loss at No. 13 Dayton on Tuesday, they fell to 108 in the NET Ranking.
FINDING HIS GROOVE
Redshirt junior point guard Javion Hamlet has started to find his groove as the team's floor general. In the team's first seven games, Hamlet had 15 assists and 24 turn- overs (.6 A/TO). But in UNT's last four games, he's had 24 assists (6 per game) and just nine turnovers (2.6 A/TO). Furthermore, he's averaged 12.3 ppg over the last four games opposed to 8.1 ppg in the first seven games.
MO BUCKETS
As of Thursday, redshirt sophomore Umoja Gibson who leads the Mean Green with 14.6 ppg has scored 164 total points which is the fifth-most in C-USA.
Z RANGE
Over the last four games, junior forward Zachary Simmons is 18-of-23 (.783) from the field and 2-of-3 from deep. During the four- game stretch he's averaging 10.5 ppg. He scored a season-high 18 points on Tuesday at No. 13 Dayton.
