GAME NOTES
MIAMI — On Saturday at 1 p.m. versus Florida International, the North Texas men's basketball team will play its final game before Conference USA's Bonus Play begins next weekend.
The Mean Green (20-6, 8-4 C-USA) look to end a two game losing streak, its first of the season, when they travel to Miami to play the Panthers (15-11, 6-7 C-USA). The game will air on ESPN+ and the Mean Green Sports Network on KHYI 95.3 FM with Dave Barnett and Hank Dickenson on the call.
UNT's .727 all-time winning percentage against FIU (16-6) is the Mean Green's best winning percentage against any D1 opponent they've played at least 20 times.Â
Following Saturday's game in Miami, the Mean Green and the 13 other teams in the league will begin Bonus Play.Â
C-USA Bonus Play is after all 14 schools have played one another, teams will be grouped into one of three pods: the top five, middle five and bottom four teams in the standings. Teams will play the opponents in their pod during Feb. 23-March 6, and each team will play two home and two road games.
   •   No. 1: home vs. 2/3, away vs. 4/5
   •   No. 2: home vs. 3/4, away vs. 1/5
   •   No. 3: home vs. 4/5, away vs. 1/2
   •   No. 4: home vs. 1/5, away vs. 2/3
   •   No. 5: home vs. 1/2, away vs. 3/4
Regardless how a team does in Bonus Play, each team will remain in its respective group for the C-USA Tournament: if the No. 6 team goes 4-0 in Bonus Play and the No. 5 team goes 0-4, the No. 6 team can't finish higher than sixth and thus can't be higher than a sixth seed in the conference tournament.
Heading into Saturday's game, UNT is in a tie for fourth-place in the league standings with Southern Miss who the Mean Green own the tiebreaker over with their Jan. 5 win against USM.
However, lurking in sixth-place, just one game behind the Mean Green, is UAB who owns the tiebreaker over North Texas. The Blazers travel to red-hot Western Kentucky on Saturday. WKU has won five in a row. Southern Miss hosts UTEP on Saturday. The Miners sit in a tie with Charlotte at the bottom of conference standings.
The first scheduled Bonus Play game will be Saturday Feb. 23. Following Saturday's league results the Mean Green will find out who and where they play the following week.Â
