BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – North Texas women's basketball travels to take on Western Kentucky Saturday for a 2 p.m. CST tip.
About the Mean Green (11-11, 4-6 C-USA)
North Texas began the conference season with three wins before dropping six of the last seven contests with the victory coming against Charlotte Feb. 2.
Terriell Bradley's scoring average of 17.1 leads the Mean Green and is fourth within Conference USA. Anisha George contributes 11.1 points per contest along with a team-best 8.0 rebounds to rank fourth in the league. Grace Goodhart averages 6.5 points as does Trena Mims. Mims and Brittany Smith each hand out 3.0 assists per contest while the 1.8 assist-to-turnover ratio by Mims ranks fifth in the league, and the 1.5 from Smith sits 10th.
About the Lady Toppers (14-10, 8-2 C-USA)
WKU began the year with a formidable schedule and suffered four straight losses to Louisville, Oklahoma, Iowa, Central Michigan. The Lady Toppers have faced five teams that were ranked or receiving votes throughout their nonconference schedule. Since C-USA play began, WKU has picked up eight wins along with losses to Southern Miss and Rice.
Dee Givens is the league's third leading scoring at 18.4 points per game, while Raneem Elgedawy tallies 16.5, and Alexis Brewer averages 10.5. Givens is tops in steals with 3.0 takeaways per contest and is also first in 3-point percentage at nearly 45 percent. Elgedawy has been honored as the C-USA Player of the Week once this season, and Meral Abdelgawad has three Freshman of the Week accolades.
History between the squads
The Lady Toppers hold a 19-6 advantage over the Mean Green in a series that began during the 2000-01 season. Three of the UNT victories occurred during head coach Jalie Mitchell's playing career. The other wins transpired in the 2006-07, 2007-08, and 2011-12 seasons with WKU winning the past eight matchups. North Texas has never won in Bowling Green.
Last meeting
FRISCO (March 9, 2018) - The North Texas women's basketball team's Cinderella run in the Conference USA tournament came to an end with a 77-61 loss to reigning league champion Western Kentucky on Friday night at the Ford Center at the Star.
The loss ends what has been the program's most successful season in 12 years and their best conference tournament showing in 16 years.
Terriell Bradley, who finished the season with 578 points, the third-most points scored in a single-season in school history and the most in 32 seasons, paced the team in scoring Friday night with 17 points, and Lauren Holmes joined Bradley in double-digits with 14. Deja Terrell added eight points off the bench and led the team with a career-high 10 rebounds with starting post Micayla Buckner in foul trouble.
Doubling up
The Mean Green have compiled seven double-doubles in the 2018-19 season, with six from junior post Anisha George and the other by redshirt sophomore forward Madi Townley. George's six double-doubles ranks third in C-USA, and she has been shy one or two rebounds on three occasions.
Throughout the 2017-18 season, the team amassed five, one each from current players Terriell Bradley and Micayla Buckner. Two seasons ago, six double-doubles were accomplished, half of them coming from Bradley.
Back at home
The Mean Green returned to The Pit Jan. 31 after a 19-day absence following a three-game road swing at Rice, UAB, and Middle Tennessee. Before the home loss against Old Dominion, North Texas had won each home contest this season after returning from a road trip with victories over Missouri State, CSU Bakersfield, and UTEP.
Home court advantage
UNT's 2018-19 record in The Pit stands at 7-4, while they have amassed a 4-7 mark in other gyms. North Texas averages 71.6 points in Denton and are outscoring opponents by 11.4. On the road, that average drops to 56.4 points as the Mean Green are being outscored by 3.8. As the home team, UNT grabs 6.4 more rebounds per contest and boasts a 3.6 assist-to-turnover ratio.
Backcourt taking care of the ball
Trena Mims sits fifth in C-USA in assist-to-turnover ratio with her 67 helpers and 37 miscues, and teammate Brittany Smith ranks 10thwith 66 along with 45 turnovers. Mims has registered three games with zero mistakes and also has nine games with only a single turnover.
She set a career-high in assists with nine versus Houston Baptist Dec. 5 and has twice dished out six. Her total against HBU is the third-best performance within C-USA this season.
Smith totaled a season-high eight helpers versus Oklahoma Panhandle State Dec. 29 and has tallied three games with six.
Mitchell notches 50 career wins
With the 70-51 win over UTEP Jan. 10, head coach Jalie Mitchell placed herself alongside former UNT coaches Judy Nelson and Tina Slinker in the 50-win club. Mitchell also became the fastest to achieve the honor in program history.
Bradley enters top 10 in scoring
With her career-high 40-point performance against NDSU Nov. 24, Terriell Bradley has continued to show her offensive prowess with 30 points at SMU Nov. 28 and 36 versus Missouri State Dec. 1. She has elevated from 14thto seventh in the UNT career-scoring charts with 1,300 points. Head coach Jalie Mitchell's (1998-2002) record of sits at 1,764.
If Bradley continues her current 17.1 average throughout the regular season, she would move into fifth all-time with over 1,400 points.
Chart-topping Bradley
With 373 free throws made, Bradley sits in third place all-time in program history. She needs five more to tie Ashley Norris (1995-2000) for third. Not out of sight is the No. 1 spot, held by head coach Jalie Mitchell, who sank 411 throughout her career. Bradley made 164 from the line last season and needs 38 to dethrone Mitchell.
Bradley is fifth all-time in 3-pointers made with 119. Ashley Norris (1995-2000) occupies the top spot with 197.
Bring on the OT
The Mean Green have compiled a lowly 12-26 record throughout program history in overtime games, but following the 83-76 win over Missouri State Dec. 1, UNT has strung together six straight victories involving extra periods. The win over the Bears was just the third in program history UNT has found success inside The Super Pit in OT, as the team is now at 3-10 at home. Two seasons ago, North Texas pulled out wins in each of their four overtime contests, and went one-for-one in 2017-18.
Non-con results
Following the 93-52 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State Dec. 29, UNT finished their nonconference schedule two games above .500 at 7-5. Dating to the 2015-16 season, the Mean Green are 24-21 in games occurring before the start of C-USA play. The team posted a mark of 9-3 in pre-conference play last season.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (Feb. 7, 2019) – North Texas women's basketball had difficulty overcoming a slow start and was held to under 10 points of offense in the first and fourth quarter in a 67-55 loss at Marshall Thursday inside Cam Henderson Center.
Grace Goodhart tied her season-high with 14 points for North Texas (11-11, 4-6 C-USA), while Trena Mims added 13. Deja Terrell provided a boost with eight rebounds to match her season-high and contributed seven points. UNT's leading scorers, Terriell Bradley and Anisha George, went a combined 5-of-22 from the floor for 12 points, 17 below their collective averages.
North Texas did not register any fast break points on the evening but did manage 15 second chance points compared to just two by Marshall (14-9, 8-2 C-USA).
