The North Texas women's golf team hosts their second annual The Bruzzy tournament and the first at Lantana Golf Club after hosting the inaugural event at the Maridoe Golf Club last year.

THE EVENT: The Lantana Golf Club will play at 6,421-yard, par-72 course. The two-day tournament begins Monday, with teams playing 36 holes before wrapping up the tournament on Tuesday with the final 18 holes.

THE FIELD: There are 15 teams in the tournament: No. 35 Baylor, BYU, No. 28 Houston, No. 37 Iowa, Kansas State, Maryland, No. 20 Miami, Missouri, No. 41 Ole Miss, North Texas, SMU, No. 19 TCU, No. 2 Texas, Texas A&M and No. 43 Texas Tech.

REPRESENTING UNT: Competing for the Mean Green will be Lauren Cox, Madison Lewis, Sabina Pena, Patricia Sinolungan and Audrey Tan.

LAST TIME OUT: North Texas finished 12th at the MountainView Collegiate in Saddlebrooke, Arizona. Cox led the way for UNT with a 2-over-par showing, which was good for a tie for 28th place individually.

TRENDING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION:Â North Texas has made significant strides since head coach Michael Akers took over roughly three years ago. The Mean Green were ranked No. 201 following the 2015-16 season, and since Akers arrived in Denton, UNT has soared as many as 109 spots to break into the top 100, and ended last season 92 spots better than when he arrived in Denton. The first official ranking of 2018-19 was released before the Betsy Rawls, and had North Texas ranked No. 103. Heading into this tournament, UNT is ranked No. 85.

AKERS SAYS: "I'm just thrilled. The staff here (at Lantana) is amazing. This tournament is reciprocal for us. We're able to go to some great tournaments because (other teams) want to come to this tournament. This tournament is so important to everything we're trying to do from a recruiting aspect, from a tournament scheduling aspect. It's just a great tournament."

UP NEXT: North Texas will travel to Fort Myers, Florida, to compete in the C-USA Championship April 15-17 at Verandah Golf Club.
