DENTON - For the first time since 1977-78, North Texas this season posted a winning record in every sport.
The 2018-19 campaign is the first in school history to have a winning record in all eight sports sponsored by UNT which have win-loss records: men's and women's basketball, football, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis and volleyball. The last time North Texas had a winning record in every sport was 1977-78, when the Mean Green did not sponsor volleyball, softball, women's soccer or swimming & diving.
Mean Green teams posted 134 victories this season, the most in the department history, and had a cumulative winning percentage of 61.6, the highest since 1978-79.
"I am incredibly proud of everyone that helped make 2018-19 the most competitively successful season in over 40 years," Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker said. "Our coaches, student-athletes and staff have created a winning culture within Mean Green athletics thanks to the tremendous support of our President, Chancellor and Board of Regents. This season is confirmation that we have alignment in our vision and buy-in at every level in embracing the process."
The previous high in number of winning teams was five in 2017-18 and 2011-12.
Men's and women's golf, cross country and track & field do not have head-to-head win-loss records. But of those sports, North Texas men's cross country won the Conference USA championship this year and women's golf had an NCAA individual qualifier.
North Texas also sent its football team to a bowl game for the third year in a row, the softball team recorded the most wins in program history and its first conference championship, the soccer team won the C-USA regular-season and tournament titles, and tennis sent a doubles team to the NCAA Championships.
