Mean Green At West Prelims

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – A dozen North Texas track and field student-athletes will be competing at the 2019 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminary Round May 23-25 at Hornet Stadium hosted by Sacramento State.
Athletes ranking among the top 48 in their respective event earned berths into the NCAA West Preliminary Round along with best 24 relay times. Athletes with the top 12 times/marks and the best 12 relay teams at both the East and West Preliminary Rounds sites will qualify for the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas, June 5-8.
"The atmosphere this week has been very positive and upbeat," director of track and field Carl
Sheffield said. "The athletes participating have been preparing for this week most of the year. We expected this particular group to be competing at this time of the season."
Darien Porter – 100-meter dash
Ranked 32ndat 10.38 seconds
Thursday at 8:55 p.m. CST
Porter clocked a personal record 10.38 at the Baylor Invitational March 23 for a second place finish to claim the eighth-fastest 100-meter time in Mean Green history. The sophomore has also logged consistent times of 10.55, 10.56 and 10.57 with the 10.55 earning him fifth place at the Conference USA Championships.
Joseph Squire – 110-meter hurdles

Friday at 7 p.m.
Squire grabbed fourth place at the C-USA Championships with his time of 14.15 seconds to tie for the third-best performance in UNT history. At the Texas A&M Alumni Muster, the sophomore seized the title in a personal-best, wind-aided 13.97 seconds for the best all-conditions mark at UNT.
Brock Hottel – Pole Vault

Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
Hottel holds the second-best mark in the Mean Green record books with his 5.15-meter vault March 28 at the Texas Relays. The freshman secured sixth place at the C-USA Championships at 4.76 and grabbed a third-place finish at the Wes Kittley Invitational March 16 at 4.85 meters.
Zion Hill – Javelin

Friday at 2 p.m.
Hill set the Mean Green program record with his throw of 69.15 meters at the Texas Relays March 28 for runner-up honors. The freshman took the C-USA Championships title with his mark of 66.79 and also took first place to set the stadium record with a toss of 64.09 at the North Texas Classic April 6.
"I feel very confident in Zion Hill's chance throwing the javelin this week. He has very high qualifying marks going into the competition," Sheffield said.
4x100-meter relay (Porter, Davonye Jones, Antonio Delacruz, James Cole and alternate Abdon Campbell)

Saturday at 8:15 p.m.
The relay group secured the sixth-best time in UNT history with their 39.96 clocking March 30 at the Texas Relays. The foursome earned second place at the C-USA Championships in a time of 40.02 and were also runner-up at the Mt. SAC Relays in 40.07.
"The relay stands a chance to do some damage. They have to run a couple ticks quicker on Saturday to advance."
Aneesa Scott – 200-meter dash

Friday at 9:30 p.m.
Scott set the North Texas record in the 200 at the Long Beach Invitational in a time of 23.43 for third place. The sophomore won the title at the North Texas Classic while setting the stadium record at 23.94 and also took first at the Baylor Invitational by clocking a 24.13.
Aneesa Scott – 400-meter dash
Ranked 27that 53.13 seconds
Thursday at 9:20 p.m.
Scott improved upon her school record in the 400 at the C-USA Championships by running to first place in a time of 53.13 seconds. Her original record stood at 53.29 from the Texas
Alumni Muster April 27, and she also finished first and set the stadium record at the North Texas Classic April 6.
"The women's 400 will be very competitive for Aneesa. She's had an awesome year and would need a big personal best performance to advance to Austin."
Breanna Eckels – Long Jump
Ranked 42ndat 6.13 meters
Thursday at 8:45 p.m.
Eckels jumped a season-best 6.13 meters at the Baylor Invitational March 23 to earn second place. At the North Texas Classic April 6, the junior won the title and set the stadium record with a leap of 6.06. She finished fourth at the C-USA Championships at 6.03 meters.
"Breanna has been here all three years of her career. Experience should play an important part in the competition this weekend."
Haley Walker – Discus
Ranked 39that 51.29 meters
Friday at 2 p.m.
Walker broke a 16-year-old North Texas school record in the discus with a heave of 51.29 meters March 30 at the Texas Relays for a fifth place showing. The sophomore claimed first place at the Texas A&M Alumni Muster April 27 (50.54), the Baylor Invitational March 23 (47.97), and the North Texas Classic April 6 (45.12) to set the stadium record.
Kristyn Archuleta – Javelin
Ranked 22ndat 49.62 meters
Thursday at 2 p.m.
The UNT record holder at 51.51 meters set last season, Archuleta threw a season-best 49.62 at the Texas Relays March 29 for a sixth place finish. The junior earned first place at the Wes Kittley Invitational March 15 with a throw of 46.34 and took second at the North Texas Classic April 6 with a mark of 42.80.
"Kristyn has also been here twice before. Her mark ranks pretty high in the javelin qualifying."
