DALLAS – Junior catcher Nicole Ochotnicki earned Conference USA All-Academic honors, the conference office announced on Monday. To be eligible for placement on the team, student-athletes must have achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, at least a sophomore standing and have competed in at least 60 percent of games this season as a starter or key reserve.
Ochotnicki has started every game at catcher for the Mean Green in 2019 while maintaining a 3.9 GPA. She has driven in 15 runs with 22 hits on a .212 batting average. She's drawn 20 walks and assisted on 23 putouts.
She is currently studying kinesiology.
"It is nice to know the hard work I've done is noticed sometimes," Ochotnicki said. "I could not have done it without the resources provided by the university and the athletic department to help me be the best student I can be."
She was named to the C-USA Commissioner's List Honor Roll and was a Commissioner's Academic Medal recipient in 2018. This is her first time being named to the All-Academic team. She is North Texas' only representative on the 11 person team and the first Mean Green named to the team since Kelli Schkade in 2017.
Ochotnicki and the Mean Green return to action Thursday in the Conference USA tournament hosted by UAB. No. 1 North Texas earned a double bye into the tournament.
