Cox Shoots 75 To Open NCAA Regional

NORMAN, Okla. – North Texas junior Lauren Cox began play Monday at the NCAA Regional at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club, and she enters Round 2 on Tuesday tied for 54th after shooting a 3-over-par 75.
Cox, who is just the second player in program history to compete in an NCAA Regional as an individual, is looking to become the first UNT golfer to qualify for the national championship tournament, which begins May 17 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
To do that, Cox will have to finish as a top-3 individual, not on a top-6 team. Currently, she's five shots back of that position, with two rounds left to play.
"Lauren did not play her normal game today," UNT coach Michael Akers said. "She had a few execution misses that cost her some shots. The good news is she has two more rounds to bounce back. She definitely has the game to break par (Tuesday)."
