Cox Has Rough Day In Norman Regional

NORMAN, Okla. – After shooting an opening-round 75 at the NCAA Tournament Norman Regional on Monday, UNT junior Lauren Cox hoped to follow it up Tuesday with a round under par to put herself in contention for a berth in the national championship tournament.
Unlike in just about every other tournament she's played this year, things didn't go her way on Tuesday, as Cox shot an 82 to fall to 13-over par for the tournament with the final round set for Wednesday at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.
Cox, who is the second player in program history to get an NCAA Regional bid as an individual, fought throughout the round but finished with 10 bogeys on the day. Cox will tee off at 9 a.m., Wednesday, with a shotgun start due to expected inclement weather throughout the day.
"Lauren had a rough day today," UNT coach Michael Akers said. "We reminded her good golfers have short memories. You cannot dwell in the past. She will treat tomorrow as preparation for next year. We envision our team being here in a year."
