DENTON – Jalie Mitchell has added a transfer to the 2019-20 North Texas women's basketball roster in Summer Jones from Seminole State College in Oklahoma.
"Summer will be a fantastic addition to an already talented group of incoming guards," head coach Jalie Mitchell said. "She enjoys doing the work and that has paid off for her big time. She is deadly behind the 3-point line and will prove that you can't leave her unattended. I love that Summer will keep defenders honest and leave the floor open for us to create offense on the perimeter."
As a sophomore, Jones led the Belles to the NJCAA Region II Semifinals where SSC finished the season 18-11 and 9-7 in conference play. The Edmond, Oklahoma, native averaged 13.4 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game while shooting 44 percent from the field, including a 40.5 percent clip from the 3-point line, and draining nearly 87 percent of her free throws.
In 2018-19, Jones scored a season-high 32 points while knocking down seven 3-pointers at Eastern Oklahoma State and put up 31 points against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. She hit eight from beyond the arc on her way to 26 points versus Northern Oklahoma Tonkawa.
"Summer adds experience having played at the junior college level and comes from a basketball family who knows what it takes to be successful. We are excited to have her on board," Mitchell said.
