NEW YORK – Redshirt senior center Sosaia Mose was selected as a member of the Rimington Trophy watch list, the Rimington Trophy Committee announced Friday.
Mose, an all-conference honorable mention selection, appeared in 12 games last season for North Texas, all starts. Mose was an integral part of a much-improved offensive line that has helped North Texas to become Conference USA's best offense in terms of scoring (34.6 ppg) and second most effective in terms of total offense (460.5 yards per game. A member of the Rimington Trophy watch list last season as well, Mose allowed a 1.0% pressure rate in 2018 (on a minimum of 200 pass blocking snaps among interior linemen) which led C-USA according to Pro Football Focus.
The selection committee comprised its list by accepting nominations from programs across the country that submitted their current starting centers for consideration.
The Rimington Trophy committee uses the following all-american teams to determine its winner: the Walter Camp Foundation (WCF), the Sporting News (SN) and the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA).
The center with the most first team votes will be determined the winner. If there is a tie with first team votes, then the center with the most second team votes will win. If there is still a tie, the winner will be determined by a majority vote from the Rimington Trophy committee. The winner will be recognized at the Rimington Trophy Presentation at the Rococo Theatre in Lincoln, Nebraska on Saturday, January 18, 2020.
The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the most outstanding center in NCAA Division I College Football. Since its inception, the nineteen-year old award has raised over $4.2 million for the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which is committed to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis.
Dave Rimington, the award's namesake, was a consensus first-team All-America center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982, during which time he became the John Outland Trophy's only two-time winner as the nation's finest college interior lineman.
