DENTON – North Texas finished 2018 with just the eighth nine-win season in program history and second in as many years. It's now time to shift the focus forward and continue to build on the program's foundation as Mean Green student-athletes report Thursday for fall camp.
A feeling of unfinished business permeates the athletic center, as the Mean Green were unable to pick up their first bowl victory of the Seth Littrell era. With summer workouts in the rearview mirror, fall camp is set to begin and the next countdown is for the season-opening white-out at Apogee Stadium on Aug. 31 against Abilene Christian.
There are five new faces on the coaching staff with the appointments of offensive coordinator Bodie Reeder, cornerbacks coach Clay Jennings, running backs coach Patrick Cobbs, tight ends coach Adrian Mayes and linebackers coach Galen Scott. UNT also added a pair of quality control assistants in Tommy Mangino and Chris Petrilli.
Heisman hopeful Mason Fine, five of the six leading receivers from last season, and six defensive starters return for North Texas. High expectations are in place, as evidenced by the several preseason plaudits for members of the Mean Green across Conference USA as well as the rest of the country.
Mean Green student-athletes open Thursday with a series of team and positional meetings around the athletic center. Then it's time to kick things off Friday morning from Apogee Stadium with practice number one.
