C-USA Releases Preseason Poll, All-League Team

DALLAS – Junior outside hitter Valerie Valerian was selected to repeat as a First-Team All-Conference USA selection, the conference office announced on Thursday. Last year's champion Rice was selected to repeat, picking up 11 first-place votes after a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2018.
After a fifth-place finish in 2018 and a trip to the third-round of the National Invitational Volleyball Championship, North Texas is projected to finish fourth. The Mean Green finished fifth in the regular season in 2018.
Valerian was one of five North Texas players to garner All-Conference selections in 2018. It was her first appearance on the first team. She finished fourth in C-USA with a team leading 495 kills and had the second most digs for the Mean Green at 356.
The Mean Green open the season at home with the North Texas Invite Aug. 30-31. North Texas and Illinois State will open the tournament on Friday, Aug. 30, at 9:30 a.m. Then at 6:30 p.m. North Texas will face Pepperdine, which received 36 votes in the Preseason Coaches Poll.
