Mean Green Claim Top-Two Finishes

ARLINGTON – The Mean Green continued their young 2019 season with top-two finishes by both the men and women at the Gerald Richey Invitational hosted by UT-Arlington.

"We were excited for another early season meet," head coach Kevin Williams said. "I'm also excited that we ran well on tired legs, we added in a few new athletes to the field this week and it was good to see them get out on the course and compete."

The North Texas men claimed their second-straight first place team finish to start the season. Junior Matthew Morgan, who led the Mean Green in their first meet with a third place finish paced the way Saturday with a second place individual finish with a time of 15:08.5.

All North Texas men finished in the top-15, with five runners finishing top-10.

The women's team, who came away with a third place finish in the season's first meet, was able to leave Arlington with a second place team finish behind the host Mavericks.

Sophomore Aubrey Schmidt led the way for the women for the second-straight week. The College Station native finished third individually with a time of 18:24.6. Schmidt was joined in the top-10 by senior Jennifer White who placed fifth overall and junior Gwyneth Garcia who placed tenth in her North Texas debut with times of 18:36.9 and 19:00.0 respectively.

The Mean Green will be back in action on October 5th when they travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas for the 31st Annual Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival.
