Trinity Forest Golf Course | Dallas
The North Texas women's golf team opens the season at SMU's home tournament after a dual scheduled with Midwestern State was canceled last week due to inclement weather.
Â
THE EVENT: The Trinity Forest Golf Course will play at 6,085 yards on Monday and 6,154 yards on Tuesday, and will be a par-72 course. The two-day event begins Monday, when teams will play 36 holes, teeing off at 8:30 a.m., with a shotgun start. The final round will begin at 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, with a shotgun start.
Â
THE FIELD: There are 11 teams participating in the tournament: Baylor, Central Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas State, Memphis, North Texas, Oklahoma State, SMU, Texas Tech, Tulane and Tulsa.
Â
REPRESENTING UNT: Competing for the Mean Green will be Lauren Cox, Katie Finley, Emilie Ricaud, Patricia Sinolungan and Audrey Tan. Marija Jucmane will be competing as an individual.
Â
RESULTS: Live results will be posted on GolfStat.com. Full recaps from each day of competition will be posted on MeanGreenSports.com at the end of each round.
Â
LAST TIME OUT: North Texas finished fourth at the 2019 Conference USA championship, and Lauren Cox earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Regional in Norman, Oklahoma.
Â
MOVING UP: North Texas has made significant strides since head Michael Akers took over roughly four years ago. The Mean Green were ranked No. 201 following the 2015-16 season, and since Akers arrived in Denton, UNT has soared as many as 123 spots to break into the top 80, and ended last season 112 spots better than when he arrived in Denton. The Mean Green ended last season ranked No. 89, but climbed as high as No. 79.
Â
AKERS SAYS: "We are excited to get back to Trinity Forest and compete. There are some very strong teams there, and it is great to begin this year close to home. We have been doing our best to play similar courses to Trinity Forest in practice. We have such a huge advantage being located in a metro area with dozens and dozens of courses close by. We are very happy to trade invites with SMU for our host events. It works out great for both programs."
Â
UP NEXT: The Mean Green will head to Manhattan, Kansas, for the Marilynn Smith Invitational, hosted by Kansas State, on Sept. 15-16.
