DENTON – North Texas women's basketball went through a roster overhaul in the offseason and welcomed nine new faces to the Mean Green in 2019-20. The freshmen quad of N'Yah Boyd, Jazion Jackson, Destinee McDowell and Randi Thompson has already made an instant impact early on during their North Texas careers.
N'Yah Boyd
The guard from Mesquite Horn leads the Mean Green in total assists with 34 but is not shy about her own scoring as she has taken the most field goal attempts on the team with 138 and free throws with 59. Boyd scored a career-high 22 points versus then-No.12 N.C. State Dec. 1 and poured on 16 points at Florida Atlantic Jan. 11.
Jazion Jackson
Jackson has started every game for the Mean Green and dishes out a team-high 2.1 assists per contest. The former Dallas Skyline guard handed out a team and career-high eight assists versus Alcorn State Nov. 11 and has scored in double-digits on four occasions.
Destinee McDowell
McDowell has been a force offensively and defensively for North Texas this season. The forward from Fort Worth is second on the team in both scoring (11.1) and rebounding (7.2). She leads the team in steals (2.6), good enough to rank second in Conference USA, and nabbed eight takeaways in a win over Xavier (La.) Nov. 20 for the second-highest total in Mean Green history and the fourth best showing in NCAA Division I this season.
Randi Thompson
Thompson put up a career-high 25 points at Florida Atlantic Jan. 11 and is tops on the team in 3-pointers per game with 1.3. The guard from Frisco Liberty was a catalyst in the Mean Green win over WKU Jan. 2 by coming off of the bench and scoring a career and game-high 17 points, including five 3-pointers on eight attempts.
