Mean Green At Marshall

HUNTINGTON, West Virginia — The North Texas men's basketball team aims to rebound on Saturday as they travel to Marshall for a 1 p.m. CT tip-off. The Mean Green are coming off a nine-point loss at Western Kentucky on Thursday, which opened conference play.
Saturday's contest will be broadcasted on ESPN+ and the Mean Green Sports Network with Hank Dickenson and Dave Barnett on the call. The game can be heard on 88.1 FM and 95.3 FM or on the tuneIN ap.
Saturday will be the ninth all-time meeting between the two schools. While Marshall leads the all-time series 6-2, UNT split the two meetings last season. Both games last year were played in Denton. This is the first time the Mean Green have played at Marshall under third-year head coach Grant McCasland.
TAKING OVER
Redshirt junior point guard Javion Hamlet has started to find his groove as the team's floor general. In the team's first seven games, Hamlet had 15 assists and 24 turnovers (.6 A/TO). But in UNT's last seven games, he's had 45 assists (6.4 per game) and just 15 turnovers (3.0 A/TO). Over the last seven games, Hamlet's 45 assists and 3.0 A/ TO ratio is tops in C-USA. For the entire year, he ranks 3rd in assists and 7th in A/TO ratio.
TOP SHOOTER
North Texas' Umoja Gibson's .419 3FG percentage not only leads Conference USA but is almost 10 percent better than the next best (Antonio Green, Middle Tennessee, .327). Gibson is making 2.8 3-pointers per game, which is the second-highest in C-USA behind UTSA's Jhivvan Jackson (3.4). However, Jackson is attempting on average of 4.0 more 3-pointers per game. Gibson's 39 total 3-pointers are also sec- ond most in C-USA behind Jackson's 47.
ZACH ATTACK
After starting the season 20-of-41 (.487) from the field over the first seven games of the year, junior Zachary Simmons is 31-of-40 (.77.5) in the seven games since.
