DENTON – Tate Wallis has been named North Texas' quarterbacks coach, head football coach Seth Littrell announced Friday. Wallis has spent the last two seasons as the offensive coordinator at Argyle High School.
"I'm really looking forward to adding Coach Wallis to our staff," Littrell said. "He's been very successful everywhere he has been and will bring another creative dynamic to what we can do offensively. I'm excited about welcoming him into our family and can't wait to see him have the opportunity to work with our very talented quarterback room."
Wallis has spent the last four years coaching in high school, including 2018-19 at Argyle as the offensive coordinator and 2016-17 as an offensive assistant at North Forney High School.
Prior to his time in the high school ranks, Wallis spent seven seasons at Baylor from 2009-15 and was named the 2015 national Wide Receivers Coach of the Year by FootballScoop for his efforts leading a BU corps highlighted by unanimous All-American and Biletnikoff Award winner Corey Coleman (74 receptions, 1,363 yards, 20 TDs). The Bears top-ranked offense also included All-Big 12 receiver KD Cannon and NFL signee Jay Lee (Lions).
Prior to taking over as receivers coach, Wallis spent three seasons as an assistant director of football operations involved in offensive quality control and two years as a graduate assistant coaching the tight ends and offensive special teams.
The 2008 Tarleton State graduate joined the Baylor staff following a two-year stint coaching inside receivers at Red Oak (Texas) High School.
The former quarterback played collegiately at SMU under then-head coach Phil Bennett. He was a two-year letterman at SMU (2002-03), and started seven games, throwing for 834 yards as a redshirt freshman in 2002. He also spent time at tight end as a redshirt in 2001.
Wallis led Ennis (Texas) High School to the 2000 4A state championship as a senior quarterback, when he threw for more than 3,600 yards and 37 touchdowns and ran for 1,200 yards and 12 touchdowns. He was named to the 2000 4A All-State second team both by The Associated Press and THSCA.
Also a 4A All-State and District 10-4A MVP in baseball at Ennis, Wallis was selected in the 2001 MLB Draft by the New York Yankees.
