The North Texas women's golf team returns to action after a strong showing at its season opener when the Mean Green finished fourth at the Schooner Fall Classic in Norman, Oklahoma. It will be a familiar field loaded with Big 12 powers, many of which the Mean Green took down just two weeks ago.

THE EVENT: UT Golf Club will play as a par-72 course at 6,331 yards. The teams will play 36 holes on Saturday and will finish with 18 holes on Sunday. Players will be paired in threesomes with each player having their own cart as part of COVID-19 protocol.

THE FIELD: There are nine teams participating in the tournament (rankings are final rankings from March): No. 20 Baylor, No. 49 Iowa State, Kansas, No. 51 North Texas, No. 28 Oklahoma, No. 17 Oklahoma State, No. 45 TCU, No. 2 Texas and No. 24 Texas Tech.

REPRESENTING UNT: Competing for the Mean Green will be Audrey Tan, Lauren Cox, Katie Finley, Patricia Sinolungan and Emilie Ricaud. Marija Jucmane will be competing as an individual.

LAST TIME OUT: UNT finished fourth at the Fall Schooner Classic after some final-round struggles. With nine holes remaining, the Mean Green were in second place. Lauren Cox tied for third in the event and won Conference USA Golfer of the Week honors.

MOVING UP: North Texas has made significant strides since head Michael Akers took over roughly five years ago. The Mean Green were ranked No. 201 following the 2015-16 season, and since Akers arrived in Denton, UNT has soared more than 150 spots from that time. The Mean Green ended last season ranked No. 51. The first set of rankings for this season will be released on Oct. 17.

AKERS SAYS: "We are excited to play in another Big 12 event and have the opportunity to pick up some great wins. This week, we are the only non-Big 12 team in the field, but we certainly have proven we can compete against these teams. All of our players played at UT last year, so they know the golf course. The weather will be much different, however. Last year, we faced cool and wet conditions, and this year it looks to be hot and dry. We need to pay attention to how far the ball will fly and roll out."
