UNT Quartet Earns C-USA All-Freshman Honors

DALLAS - North Texas defensive ends Gabriel Murphy, Grayson Murphy, tight end Jake Roberts and corner Upton Stout earned Conference USA All-Freshman honors, the league announced Monday. The four selections, made by the league's 14 head coaches, are the highest during Seth Littrell's tenure.

The Murphy twins, who transitioned to edge rushers ahead of the win at Middle Tennessee on Oct. 17, enter the Myrtle Beach Bowl with 18 tackles apiece. Gabriel has 5.5 tackles for loss, a team-high 4.5 sacks, two quarterback hurries and a forced fumble in six appearances. Grayson has 4.0 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks and four hurries in seven games for the Mean Green.

Roberts, a native of Norman, Oklahoma, has had a big impact for the Mean Green during his first season in Denton, specifically in the run game. He has helped the nation's 13^th-ranked rushing attack by paving the way for the likes of DeAndre Torrey (656 yards), Oscar Adaway III (475 yards) and quarterback Jason Bean (338 yards) and a combined 17 rushing touchdowns. Roberts has also caught four passes for 49 yards (12.2 yards per reception) after appearing in all nine games, two of which were starts.

Stout, a Houston native, has posted 31 total tackles (20 solo) with a pair of pass break-ups in seven appearances for North Texas, two of which were starts at corner. Stout is just outside the top-50 in Conference USA in tackles per game (4.4), which ranks third among all freshman in C-USA.
