DENTON – North Texas women's basketball finishes out the non-conference portion of their schedule by hosting Oklahoma State Tuesday at 5 p.m. inside The Super Pit.
About the Mean Green
North Texas claimed its first set of back-to-back victories of the season with a 74-56 win against UT Arlington Dec. 19 after defeating Louisiana Dec. 4. Redshirt sophomore Quincy Noble leads the team in scoring at 20.3 points. Sophomore N'Yah Boyd averages 10.8, while redshirt senior Madison Townley posts 9.5 along with a team-high 8.3 rebounds. Sophomore Jazion Jackson adds 8.0 points, and Boyd dishes out team-best 4.7 assists.
About the Cowgirls
Oklahoma State enters the contest at 5-2 overall and 2-0 in Big 12 play with wins over Oklahoma and West Virginia. Ja'Mee Asberry averages team-highs of 16.0 points and 3.4 assists. Natasha Mack scores 15.4 per contest and pulls down a team-best 9.3 rebounds. The Cowgirls are fifth in the nation in blocks with 7.4 a game with 3.6 of them coming courtesy of Mack, the national leader.
History between UNT and OSU
The Mean Green have defeated the Cowgirls once in 13 tries in a series that began in 1979 and has not been played since the 2013-14 season. The lone win for UNT occurred Dec. 9, 1989, in a 75-65 triumph in Denton.

STILLWATER, Okla. (Dec. 1, 2013) - Early foul trouble and poor rebounding doomed the North Texas women's basketball team against an undefeated, 19th-ranked Oklahoma State team on the road as the Mean Green fell, 95-47.
The loss dropped North Texas to 3-4 on the year and 0-2 on the road. It was also NT's second loss to a ranked opponent, the first coming at home against No. 13 Texas A&M.
The Mean Green led by four early in the game until the two starting NT posts, sophomores Alexis Hyder and Acheil Tac, both left the contest with two fouls a piece. Oklahoma State took advantage on the offensive glass, totaling 17 offensive boards to NT's five in the first half.
Despite the disadvantage on the boards, the Mean Green climbed to within four, 26-22, before the Cowpokes closed out the first half on a 20-4 run.
Freshman guard Candice Adams, matched up against one of the top field generals in college basketball in senior Tiffany Bias, put together the best performance of her career. She tied a career high with nine points and tacked on two assists with a steal and zero turnovers while running the point.
Three of Four
The 3-1 start compiled by the Mean Green is the best record since the 2017-18 season when UNT began 6-1. Head Coach Jalie Mitchell has amassed a record of 37-31 in non-conference play during her tenure.
New Versus Old
The Mean Green welcomed back a solid core of contributors from last season, including leading scorers Destinee McDowell and N'Yah Boyd. Transfers Quincy Noble, Destiny Brooks, Rochelle Lee and Emma Villas-Gomis are eligible for competition for the Mean Green in 2020-21 along with freshmen Tommisha Lampkin and Maddie Cleary. To date, the group of returners is posting 47.2 of the 78.3 points scored per contest, while the newbies contribute 35.5.
A Noble Start
Quincy Noble has already made a name for herself four games into her career with the Mean Green. The redshirt sophomore put up a career-high 30 points against Louisiana Dec. 4 and knocked down five 3-pointers, the fifth-highest total ever recorded by a North Texas player. Against UTA Dec. 19, she recorded game-highs of 22 points and nine rebounds and made the most of her North Texas debut with a team-high 17 points in a season-opening win over Tarleton Nov. 25. Noble leads the league in 3s per game at 3.5 and ranks second in accuracy at over 48-percent.
Deep Improvement
The Mean Green struggled from the 3-point line last season by connecting on just 27.8 percent of their attempts, ranking them 300 of the 348 teams in NCAA Division I. So far in 2020-21, the team is hitting at a 40.3-percent clip to sit 20th in the nation and second in Conference USA.
Formidable Freshman
In her collegiate debut, freshman Tommisha Lampkin posted 12 points and seven rebounds in just 12 minutes of play in a season-opening win against Tarleton Nov. 25. The forward knocked down five of her six shots and both free throws. Against Texas Nov. 29, Lampkin held her own underneath with two field goals and four rebounds. Throughout the four games this season, she has been consistent in her 10 minutes of playing time by compiling averages of 5.8 points and 4.8 rebounds.
Last Mean Green Outing
SOUTH PADRE ISLAND/EDINBURG, Texas – It took two days to finish, but North Texas women's basketball defeated UT Arlington, 74-56, on the campus of UTRGV Saturday as part of the revised and reworked South Padre Island Classic that began Friday on South Padre Island.
The game between the Mean Green (3-1) and the Lady Mavericks (2-2) was the first of four originally scheduled within the South Padre Island Classic hosted by UTRGV inside the SPI Convention Center. After beginning the game Friday, it was mutually postponed due to unsafe court conditions prior to the start of the second quarter with the Mean Green leading, 18-13.
The teams changed venues and cities and headed to the host team's campus to play at the UTRGV Fieldhouse Saturday.
Quincy Noble logged game-highs of 22 points and nine rebounds, and Madison Townley scored a career-high 17 points along with seven boards. N'Yah Boyd recorded a dozen points and a game-high five assists, and Destinee McDowell also hauled down nine rebounds.
