C-USA Bonus Play Schedule Announced
2/16/2020 12:00:00 PM | Men's Basketball
DALLAS — After playing all 13 Conference USA opponents and starting league play a program-record 12-2, the Mean Green men's basketball team sits atop the conference standings and enters C-USA Bonus Play in the No. 1 position.
Sunday, C-USA released the final portion of the regular season league schedule known as Bonus Play. UNT, which is in the top pod along with the next four best teams in the league, will host No. 3 Louisiana Tech on Feb. 22 at 3 p.m., travel to No. 5 FIU on Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. CT, host No. 2 Western Kentucky on March 1 at 1 p.m. CT and then play at No. 4 Charlotte on March 4 at 6 p.m. CT.
Saturday Feb. 22, 3 p.m. CT vs. LA Tech (Stadium)
Thursday Feb. 27, 6 p.m. CT at FIU (Stadium on Facebook)
Sunday March 1, 1 p.m. CT vs. WKU (CBS Sports Network)
Wednesday March 4, 6 p.m. CT at Charlotte (CBS Sports Network on Facebook)
Sunday, March 7, No game
The 2020 C-USA Championships Presented by Baylor Scott & White Sports Performance Center at the Star in Frisco begins March 11 and runs through the 14th.
This is the second season C-USA Bonus Play has been in effect.
HOW BONUS PLAY WORKS
After all 14 C-USA schools have played one another, teams will be grouped into one of three pods: the top five, middle five and bottom four teams in the standings. Teams will play the opponents in their pod during Feb. 22-March 7, and each team will play two home and two road games.
Regardless how a team does in Pod Play, each team will remain in its respective group for the C-USA Tournament: if the No. 6 team goes 4-0 in Pod Play and the No. 5 team goes 0-4, the No. 6 team can't finish higher than sixth and thus can't be higher than a sixth seed in the conference tournament.
WHY BONUS PLAY?
The goal of Bonus Play is to get more C-USA teams into the NCAA postseason tournament and improve their seeding when they get in. By having the top teams playing one another, the top teams have more opportunities to earn resume-boosting wins.
CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2020 C-USA Basketball Championships presented by Baylor Scott & White Sports Performance Center at the Star will be held in Frisco March 11-14 at the Ford Center.
