The Woodlands Country Club | The Woodlands, Texas
Â
The North Texas women's golf team returns to action after a quick break following last week's Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate in New Orleans with a return trip to the ICON Invitational.
Â
THE EVENT: The Woodlands Country Club will play as a par-72 course at 6,392 yards. The teams will play 36 holes on Monday starting at 8 a.m., and will have a shotgun start on Tuesday at 8 a.m., to close out the tournament.
Â
THE FIELD: There are 14 teams participating in the tournament, including six teams in the top-40 nationally and top-ranked Texas: No. 32 Houston, Kennesaw State, No. 5 Kent State, North Texas, Purdue, SMU, TCU, No. 1 Texas, No. 37 Texas A&M, Texas State, No. 23 Texas Tech, Tulsa, UT San Antonio and No. 20 Virginia Tech.
Â
REPRESENTING UNT: Competing for the Mean Green will be Lauren Cox, Audrey Tan, Patricia Sinolungan and Audrey Tan, Katie Finley and Emilie Ricaud. Marija Jucmane will compete as an individual.
Â
RESULTS: Final results will be posted on GolfStat.com. A full recap will be posted on MeanGreenSports.com at the end of the day.
Â
LAST TIME OUT: North Texas finished ninth out of 15 teams at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate. Tan led the way for North Texas, tying for 14th, at 2-under par.
Â
MOVING UP: North Texas has made significant strides since head Michael Akers took over roughly four years ago. The Mean Green were ranked No. 201 following the 2015-16 season, and since Akers arrived in Denton, UNT has soared as many as 148 spots from that time. The Mean Green ended last season ranked No. 89, but climbed as high as No. 79. Now, the team is ranked No. 57 in the latest GolfStat poll.
Â
AKERS SAYS: "It has been raining down there and more is expected," UNT coach Michael Akers said. "We played in very wet conditions in New Orleans, so we should be prepared. This event will be a great opportunity to get some quality wins and move up the rankings. …Four of our starting five (all but Ricaud) played this event last year. Our team has seen success on this course, so the ladies should be confident heading in."
Â
UP NEXT: North Texas will head to BYU's Entrada Invitational, on March 9-10.
