DALLAS – North Texas freshman Emilie Ricaud had the best showing of her short career at the ICON Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, and on Wednesday the league honored her with the Conference USA Golfer of the Week award.
Ricaud (Noumea, New Caledonia) joins senior Lauren Cox as the Mean Green's winners of the weekly award this year after tying for 15th with Cox at the tournament in The Woodlands with a 74-72-72-218 showing (2-over par). The showing broke her previous career best of T31st, which she had done twice this season.
Ricaud had the team's low score in two of the three rounds, as the Mean Green finished sixth in a field loaded with top-40 teams and finished just two spots behind No. 1 Texas. They beat No. 20 Virginia Tech, No. 23 Texas Tech and No. 32 Houston. She was tied for fifth in the field in Par 3 scoring and tied for fourth in total pars while lowering her season scoring average to 76.05.
"I am very excited to see Emilie honored this week," UNT coach Michael Akers said. "It was only a matter of time before she broke out and played well for three consecutive rounds. Emilie's golf swing is just incredible. It is very fun to watch. I also like her laid back attitude.
"Emilie is going to be a force as she continues to develop her short game and gain more tournament experience," Akers added. "This award shows just how deep our team is. We have six players that could all be in this situation any given week."
Ricaud and her teammates return to action on March 9-10 at the BYU Entrada Invitational in St. George, Utah.
